J-MIYABI takes its name from the ancient Japanese sense of Miyabi—the refined elegance that has long shaped Japan’s kimono and obi culture. Uni-Granz created this brand to share the beauty and craftsmanship of traditional Japanese obi with the world.
We carefully upcycle premium vintage obi, selecting and cutting the most auspicious patterns to create unique items such as cosmetic pouches, mugs, tumblers, and bags. Each piece is crafted so that the “lucky motifs” of the obi appear beautifully and meaningfully on the final product.
Using a lucky-pattern obi pouch in your daily life is believed to bring good fortune and positive energy.
Until about 50 years ago, Japanese people wore kimono and obi as part of everyday life. Everyone owned special kimono and obi for important ceremonies—weddings, school entrance ceremonies, graduations, and even funerals.
The most luxurious and gorgeous kimono and obi were worn for weddings and celebratory occasions. These ceremonial obi are made from silk and decorated with beautifully embroidered auspicious motifs, each symbolizing wishes for happiness, longevity, and prosperity.
